The Algorithm Charter
Every feed is ranked by an algorithm, including ours. The difference is whose side it's on. These are the commitments SmartScroll is built on: the algorithm works for your student, never against them.
The feed is ranked by one thing: what your student needs to master next, based on their skill graph and what they've gotten right and wrong. There is no engagement-maximizing objective anywhere in the system. Watch time is not a metric we tune for.
A daily goal, natural stopping points, and no infinite autoplay. When the day's learning is done, the app says so, and during long sessions it suggests taking a break instead of pulling for one more scroll.
The AI tutor starts with hints and guiding questions, then hands the problem back so the student does the next step themselves. Getting unstuck should build a skill, not a dependency.
We are not an attention business. There are no ads, we never sell data, there is no social network, and no messaging with anyone but the tutor. Your student is the customer, never the product. The details are in our privacy policy.
If a student tells the tutor they're in crisis, the tutoring stops. They get a caring message pointing to real help, like the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, never an AI lesson reply. This routing is built into both the app and the server.
You can cancel any paid plan in two taps, with no dark patterns, no fake urgency, and no surprise renewals.
What we deliberately don't do
Most learning apps grow by making a child anxious about leaving. We took the parts that work, visible progress and a moment when you arrive somewhere, and left these behind on purpose.
We count the days you learned, and that number only goes up. We never warn you that you are about to lose something, because a day off is not a failure.
We only ever compare you to your own past. We will not rank children against each other, because that rewards whoever has the most free time rather than whoever learned the most.
We send a reminder for a session a grown-up scheduled, and a weekly summary to a parent. We do not send anything whose only purpose is to pull a child back into the app.
We give every session, review and lesson a finish. When the work is done we say so and stop, rather than loading one more thing to keep you here.
